Ayurveda is a holistic system of living that focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit. Originating in India over 5,000 years ago, Ayurveda is often referred to as “The Science of Life.” The word “Ayurveda” comes from two Sanskrit words: “Ayus,” meaning “life,” and “Veda,” meaning “knowledge” or “science.” Together, they represent a profound system of knowledge aimed at improving human life. Rooted in ancient Vedic literature, Ayurveda is one of the oldest healing systems in the world. It has influenced many other traditional medicine systems and continues to be practiced globally.
Ayurveda teaches that all living beings—humans, plants, and animals—must live in harmony with nature to thrive. It emphasizes daily and seasonal routines to promote optimal health and longevity. Health, in Ayurveda, is seen as a dynamic balance between the subtle energies within the body (Microcosm) and the external environment (Macrocosm). This balance is both vertical, representing personal growth and evolution, and horizontal, reflecting our interactions with the world around us. True health is a state of harmony experienced at every level of existence.
In ancient times, Ayurvedic practitioners prepared medicines themselves for their patients. Today, however, this practice is rare, with most Ayurvedic medicines being commercially produced. There are two main types of Ayurvedic medicines available: Classical formulations, which are prepared according to ancient Ayurvedic texts (Samhitas), and Patent or Proprietary formulations, which are made using plant extracts.
At our practice, we stay true to the authentic principles of Ayurveda. We prepare 100% in-house medicines for our patients and do not rely on commercially produced Ayurvedic products. With over four generations of experience in this ancient tradition, we have successfully treated more than 10,000 patients.
